THE DAYS BETWEEN, SHORT-LiVED

Just because one knows the pattern, doesn't mean one can escape it.

The Making Of

Like most hard rock and heavy metal records, this three-song EP was born unexpectedly from tragedy, loss, and a lingering sense of mystery.

After the recording, but before the release, of The Signal Cycle, Waters and the rest of Circa 1996 planned some time off, to rest and recuperate. Unfortunately this was not to be, and Waters later cited one specific weekend in February 2026 as the turning point that created this release. At that time, Waters was assembling a side project called Column, which received positive early reviews from local showcases, and the new band promised to further develop the "shoegaze" elements of Circa 1996's signature sound.

While it's still unclear what happened, or failed to happen, on 7 February 2026, the story goes that all three songs on this release were penned on that exact day (at the time, under that Column nom de plume).

Suddenly, Column was reportedly disbanded and Circa 1996 became active once more, far earlier than intended. Scheduled for release much sooner than its 10 May 2026 appearance, Waters and his distribution partners sparred over putting out more material so soon after the group's full-length debut.

When asked about the two subtle arrows that appear only on the right-hand side of the cover art, our subject explained: "Onwards and upwards."
