HOW CAN i LOSE WHAT i NEVER HAD?
Rise and fall, rage and loss.
The Making Of
The history of Circa 1996 dates, inconveniently, back to 2024 before the project had a name. At this point, Waters began writing a series of alternative metal demos recorded in Colorado Springs, CO, under titles like "Hex-Girlfriend" and "Me, You, & the Sky." These early works circulated locally and included most of the themes that would eventually preoccupy his writing: God, women, the occult, and the suspicion that these were not necessarily separate subjects. Some of those songs made it all the way to Circa 1996's first release, this six-song EP, but only after a year's worth of revision and rewriting.
After a revelatory experience in a friend's backyard in summer 2025, Waters decided that these songs would have to be released after all.
Thus began the arduous process of finalizing lyrics, re-recording instrumentals, and eventually, mixing/mastering, all of which was done at Castle Waters Recordings in Colorado Springs. On Black Friday, 2025, Circa 1996 was born with the release of this six-song effort.
